Shorter term interest rates have been steadily rising, with the United States 2-year Treasury up more than 130 basis points over the past 12 months. This has caused a strain on many institutions’ liquidity. The current economic expansion cycle in the U.S. is the second longest on record but growth has been relatively tepid. Expansion cycles don't die of old age; however, the United States economy has been showing tell-tale signs of late cycle behavior. This session will review some of the challenges the economy is facing along with a discussion on best practices in the investment portfolio and liquidity risk management.
Drew Simmons has worked in finance since 2003 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration along with a master’s degree in Finance from the Meinder’s School of Business from Oklahoma City University. As Senior Vice President for The Baker Group in Oklahoma City, he works with the needs of financial institutions covering interest rate risk, asset and liability management, and fixed income portfolio management. Drew also provides advisory services to municipalities for the issuance of bonded debt, feasibility studies, continuing disclosure requirements and underwriting.
