Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) convened a roundtable today with U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10), member financial institutions, trade association partners, and industry leaders to discuss important issues affecting the housing finance industry, financial services institutions, and the communities they serve across Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.
The event provided a forum for local community banks, credit unions, insurance companies and trade association partners to share insights with Rep. Schneider on the opportunities and challenges facing community lenders, including the role community financial institutions play in supporting housing, economic development, and access to credit for individuals, families, and small businesses.
Participants also discussed how FHLBank Chicago’s liquidity products and programs help member institutions meet the needs of their customers and communities. The conversation underscored the importance of collaboration among policymakers, financial institutions, and community partners to address local economic priorities and strengthen neighborhoods across the district.
“FHLBank Chicago is proud to bring together our members, trade association partners, and Congressman Schneider for an important conversation about the issues shaping the financial services industry,” said Michael Ericson, President and CEO of FHLBank Chicago. “Our members play a critical role in expanding access to housing, credit, and opportunity, and we appreciate Congressman Schneider’s engagement and willingness to hear directly from the institutions serving communities throughout Illinois’ 10th District.”
“I want to thank FHLBank Chicago for creating a forum where local lenders and industry stakeholders can share their perspectives and experiences.” said Rep. Schneider. “Community lenders are essential to the strength of our local economy, and conversations like this help ensure we are working together to support families, small businesses, and communities across Illinois’ 10th District.”
“FHLBank Chicago’s low-cost liquidity and strong partnership help us better serve our members and meet the evolving credit needs of those in our community,” said Jim Block, President of BCU (Baxter Credit Union). “This roundtable provided a valuable opportunity to share what we're seeing on the ground and discuss how continued collaboration with policymakers and partners can expand access to housing, support local businesses, and strengthen the places our members call home.”
The roundtable provided a valuable open dialogue between financial institutions and policymakers as they work together to address evolving economic and community development needs. FHLBank Chicago remains committed to supporting its members and partners through financial solutions that help strengthen communities across Illinois and Wisconsin.
